RICHARD O. DANIEL, Ed.D., MSW

Dr. Daniel graduated cum laude from Adelphi University in 1978 with a B.S. in Social Welfare. He received his M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work from Adelphi University in 1979. His clinical field practicum or internship was performed at the Vosburgh psychiatric wing of the New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York and Hawthorne Cedar Knolls School, a residential treatment facility for emotionally disturbed adolescents. Dr. Daniel completed all the course work for an Ed.D. Degree in Counseling Psychology, while on a one year NSA doctoral fellowship.

Dr. Daniel has been at the forefront of Substance Abuse Prevention and treatment since he entered on duty in 1982 as a drug and alcohol social worker. His commitment to the field is exemplified by his commitment to continuous learning in an attempt to stay at the cutting edge of the field. The knowledge Dr. Daniel gained through his doctoral program, which was culminated by his election to the National Deans List for the year of 1991-1992 broadened his view of the macro aspects of the mental health field. This led Dr. Daniel to envision certification as a value-added component to the Employee Assistance Service (EAS) alcohol program.

Dr. Daniel’s credentials include: Certified Alcohol Counselor, MA – 1983; Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, TX –1984; Certified Employee Assistance Professional (National) – 1989; Chemical Dependency Counselor, MD –1991; Certified Clinical Supervisor, MD –1993; and Substance Abuse Professional, Department of Transportation (National) - 1996.

Dr. Daniel has historically been involved as a mentor, teacher and peer supervisor in the field of substance abuse beginning in 1984, as a field instructor for Boston University and Boston College’s Graduate School for Social Work. His willingness to provide peer supervision to interns has brought the issue of substance abuse to the forefront. Dr. Daniel has also had experience as an EEO counselor at Hanscom AFB, while serving as the Chief of Programs in the Family Support Center. His records reflect OPM training in EEO and several cultural diversity classes.
